Hindsight is 2020

Looking back gives you perfect vision

When we look back at 2020 we will see clearly . . .

The color of our skin

Does not color our conversation

The only policing done forcefully

Is the forceful policing of our hearts

The crimes we commit

Are no longer the crimes against humanity

The clan that we see in sheets

Is the clan of man hand in hand in the streets

The prisons we keep in the name of justice

Start with the prisons in our mind, and it’s not just us

We are not at war

And I am not your enemy

Please put down your weapon

Imagine being a friend of me

Hate keeps us from humanity

And looking away is secret hate

Love is the only way forward

And believe me, it’s not too late

Yes, we have to say it now and out loud

In 2020 no more innocent lives lost allowed

We’ll look under ever rock, nook, and cranny

At the system - including constitution, laws, and police

Swiftly updating and rooting out the few

the few that hurt many

Yes this day has to be the one

Where we finally unite, together as one

And yell it’s no longer okay

No more innocent lives lost my way

If hindsight is 20-20

Then you already know it’s true

What happens tomorrow

Begins today with you.
